Unshakable

January 23, 2017

Some of the staff and Senior Servants of SOS Events attended a conference, looking forward to growing deeper in the knowledge of the Lord. One Scripture reference taught was Psalm 62:6, giving focus on the fact that you can be unshakable when you let God steady your life. When you are out of balance in just one area of life whether emotionally, mentally, physically or spiritually then you become wobbly like a four legged table with one short leg. Look to God to help you in every aspect of your life. You can be unshakable in Him.

Psalms 62:6 (KJV)

He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

JESUS Birth

December 24, 2016

The night is cold and dark. Mary and Joseph know that the birth of the BABY is going to be soon. Mary is in pain, probably a little afraid. No sterile hospital, nurses or midwives for her. A smelly, animal filled stable is the birthplace for the KING of kings.

Was Joseph the only one in attendance or did he run for help? Unanswered questions about the birth of our SAVIOR. But this we do know… Mary was a person chosen by God to bring His SON into the world and she had the same physical pain and emotional feelings that we have. The Bible says Mary pondered these things in her heart.

Then the miracle. JESUS is born and they laid HIM in a manger. Mary did not know that 2000 years later we would celebrate the birth of her CHILD. So on this Christmas Eve remember the true meaning of Christmas and honor Him with your gift to Him. Give Him your love, time and service not just on Christmas but everyday.

Luke 2:7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

Shepards

December 22, 2016

At the time Jesus was born, sheep farmers were seen as low or little value by other people. The sheep that they bred would have probably been used as sacrifice animals in the temple in near-by Jerusalem. They were quietly getting on with their own business when suddenly Angels appeared to them. It is not surprising they were afraid!

The angels words to them told them of Jesus and his amazing birth and how they could recognise him in a very crowded town. The song of the hosts of angels is very similar to the words sung during a sacrifice service in the temple when there were three blasts of the temple trumpets. This is only the second time in the whole Bible that a group of angels rather than one angel had appeared to people, so this proved that they had a very important message to give to them. We don’t know the names of the angels or how many there were of them, but in the Bible it says that there are millions of angels – so it would have been an amazing experience!
Being curious as to what the angels meant, they went down into Bethlehem, maybe leaving a shepherd or two behind to keep guard on the sheep.

When they had found and told Mary and Joseph what had happened to them, it says that ‘The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.’ The people they told probably weren’t just the people they saw on the way back to hills, but friends and relatives in Bethlehem and Jerusalem and the people they met in the temple when they took their sheep to be sold.

Luke 2:15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

Silent Night

December 18, 2016

This is a photograph of the Silent Night Memorial Chapel in Oberndorf, Germany. The beautiful Christmas hymn lyrics were written in German by Joseph Mohr in 1816. The music composed by Franz Xaver Gruber for the guitar and was first preformed on Christmas Eve in 1818.

The hymn became so well known that during a Christmas truce in World War I the troops on both sides sang it together in French, German and English. It has been translated into 140 languages. There is something precious about the “old” Christmas Carols that are sound scripture.

1. Silent night, holy night

All is calm, all is bright

Round yon Virgin Mother and Child

Holy Infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Sleep in heavenly peace

2. Silent night, holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!

Christ, the Saviour is born

Christ, the Saviour is born

3. Silent night, holy night

Son of God, love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Caesar Augustus

December 12, 2016

All those even vaguely familiar with Luke’s Christmas account have heard of Caesar Augustus and his famous decree. It was this decree that sent Mary in the ninth month of her pregnancy 80 miles south to Bethlehem, along with husband Joseph.Caesar Augustus reigned as emperor of the Roman empire from 27 B.C. to 14 A.D. 41 years in all. His decree had two purposes, for an accurate census and to determine taxation.
Caesar Augustus’s reign was marked by peace and security. Augustus was very interested in the number of citizens in his empire; he was especially interested in whether that number was growing.

Augustus was so concerned about the declining marriage and birth rate in his empire, that he passed legislation that made promiscuity a crime, which penalized bachelors in their right to inherit, and which bestowed political advantages on fathers of three or more children. Because of his demonstrated concern about marriage and birth rate in his empire, it is likely that one of the reasons that Augustus authorized the censuses was to see whether his legislation was working, or, at the very least, to see if the birth rates increased. Each Citizen had to return to the place of their birth fulfilling God’s prophecy that The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem.

Luke 2:1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

Child’s Gift

December 3, 2016

In the next few weeks there will be Christmas programs in churches and schools (of course to be politically correct in schools they will be called holiday programs).Songs will be happy and you may even hear a Carol or two. Looking back in memory there was one program that stands out in my mind and I have seen and even directed many of these programs. This only one that I remember clearly is when my son, who was about 3 years old, recited this little poem:

“I’m not very big or very tall you see, but to the dear Lord Jesus I give all of me.”

From the mouth of a child, that is what our gift to the Lord should be. Our heart, mind and body should be dedicated to Him this Christmas. We scurry around finding the perfect gift for each friend or loved one and many times forget the One whose birthday we are celebrating. So this season enjoy all festivities but put Jesus first. He desires our worship, love and devotion.

Luke 18:17 Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.

Thankful for Family

November 21, 2016

Family is a great blessing! Large or small our family is something to be thankful for. We are especially blessed if our family are Christians. Then not only do we have earthly ties but we have spiritual bonding as well.

If your family or some of the members are not Christians there are still wonderful things we can be thankful for in our relationships to each of them. Think of a good quality in that person. Maybe they have a great sense of humor or are a good example in one area. I think of my alcoholic grandfather, he always tried to help me with problems. My mother who taught me how to be hospitable even if there was not much money or provisions. Be thankful and if they are still living and pray for them. My parents were saved shortly before their deaths after 30 years of prayer. Remember God is faithful and wants that loved one to be saved or restored back to fellowship if they are backslidden.

Ephesians 1:16 Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;

Election Results

November 9, 2016

The election is over and many people are very happy today and many are disappointed. Now more than ever is the time to pray for our country the United States of America. Pray that our country will be healed. Pray for wisdom for our leaders. It’s really up to us as Christians if our country will be better or worse in the next four years. The Bible tells us that if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and seek my face I will heal their land. Let us as Christians search our hearts to see if there is any wicked way in us, repent of anything in our lives that displease God and watch God keep His promises.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Citizenship

November 5, 2016

The forefathers of the USA gave us many freedoms when they wrote and approved the Constitution, but the greatest freedom of all is freedom from sin provided by Jesus when he shed His blood to pay for our sins. It is a great blessing to be a citizen the USA by being born in the Country or to apply for citizenship. To become a citizen of Heaven we must be born again.

John 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Prepare to Vote

November 4, 2016

Only a few more days until Election Day. There are still many people who do not know who to vote for because they don’t like either candidate running for President. If you can’t decide or will not vote because of your negative feelings, remember that this coming President will choose at least 2 or three Surpreme Court Justices who will rule on key issues that will effect the lives of you, your children and grandchildren. If you can’t vote for the candidate vote the platform.

Do not throw your vote away. Forget the commercials, negative ads and talk show rhetoric, research the issues yourself and VOTE next Tuesday.

Matthew 22:17&22 Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?  Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.
