God is With Us in Time of Trouble

October 31, 2012

Psalm 46:1-3 (KJV)
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. [2] Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; [3] Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

These verses regarding the roaring water speak to what is currently going on in a large part of the Eastern portion of our country. It is very clear that we should not fear the rages of nature. Our Heavenly Father is in charge of it all. He allows these things to admonish, teach and prepare us for things He needs is to understand.

So many do not understand why God would allow tragedies. He is ultimately patient with us. There does come a time when He must get our attention. On most occasions He does this quietly and on an individual basis. Sometimes it is in a loud, large and public way. Natural disasters are one of those ways. They get our attention and the attention of the world.

2 Peter 3:9 (KJV)
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Do these events change us to look toward God? I would say most of the time, they do not. We forget so quickly. We do not learn from the past. We do not remember our cries to Him in times of trouble. Be sure of this, God never forgets.

Isaiah 49:15 (KJV)
Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

Signs Work Again

October 23, 2012

In Appomattox, VA Tom and Carolyn’s car was parked outside the church where they were training for the annual Railroad festival.. This church has a bus that picks up kids for the Awana program. A young boy saw their car and asked the bus driver, “What does that sign mean?”

The bus driver did not know as he had not been in the training class. He told the boy that he would explain it on the way home.

As soon as he dropped off the children for church, he ran into the Pastor’s office and said, “What are the 3 things God can not do?”

On the way home he changed his route so the boy could have his question answered. He told the boy what the 3 things are and that boy was saved.

God has used the signs on Curtis’ motor home and car to bring many to the Lord. Pray with them that this great soul winning tool will be used for many years as they drive from place to place.

Psalm 26:7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.

Pray

October 19, 2012
We have so many battles going on in America today
That we should be a people of prayer .
Our government needs prayer. Our leaders need prayer
Our schools need prayer. Our youth need prayer.
Our families  need our prayers.
 Billy Graham
With the election just around the corner, it is important for God’s children to remember to pray. God did not “suggest” we pray, He commands it!  It should not have to be a command. Which one of us, If given the opportunity, would want to speak with the President of the United States?  I bet all of us would be excited to be given that chance.  How much more excited we should be to speak with the Creator of the Universe!
If you have children you know that, often, you have to tell them to do one thing they need to do over and over again. God did the same for us.  When searching for the word “pray” at BibleGateway.com there are 367 results. It looks like God thought it may be important.
Christ spent much of his time on earth in prayer to His Father. Have you thought about that?  He was with the Father eternally, before the world began. He spent a short 33 years in human form on earth. When He rose again He went to be with the Father eternally. Why did He spend so much time on earth in prayer?  Do you think it was because he HAD to, or because he WANTED to?
Have you ever been in love?  Do you remember when you first loved someone?  All you wanted to do was talk to that person. Your conversation to others was all about the one you love. That is how our Heavenly Father feels about us!  No one else has ever, can ever or will ever love you as much as He does. Talk to him!

1 Thessalonians  5:17 – pray without ceasing

Rejoice

October 12, 2012

The song “this is the day that the Lord has made, we will rejoice and be glad in it” keeps running through my mind today. No matter what the circumstance we can rejoice in the Lord.  Rejoice today and encourage someone who is down today.

James Dean Days with the Riegels

October 10, 2012

96 Decisions at James Dean Days

Another successful year at James Dean Days in Fairmount, IN. Don and Shirley Riegel joined Tom and Carolyn Curtis for this event. John Shultz, brought a new group from his church to be trained and a total of 16 new workers are now ready to continue winning souls in Indiana.

3 churches participated, Liberty, Sweetser, New Hope, Gas City and Twin Cities, Marion.

Two young men came to the booth who had been saved in previous years. One pulled out a tract dated September, 2008! It was so tattered from being in his wallet for 4 years that it was falling apart. He was given a new one just like it and told to put the original in a special place as a reminder of when he got saved.

The second young man saw Shirley and came over to thank her for leading him to the Lord last year. He is following the Lord and in a good church.Shirley Riegel and young man she lead to Lord in 2011

SOS is blessed to have new salvations and then to have some come back and thank us for being at the event.

Signs work

October 4, 2012

Tom and Carolyn Curtis have a sign on the rear window of their car “Do you know the 3 things God can not do?”

Driving down the road in Toledo, OH, Carolyn’s phone rang. The ID gave a Ohio-phone number and when she answered, a young man said, “I am following you and I want to know the 3 things God cannot do.”

Carolyn then shared with him, “God can not lie, Titus 1:2, God can not change, Malachi 3:6, and God can not let anyone into Heaven unless he is born again, John 3:3-5. Are you 50, 75, or 100% sure if you died today you would go to Heaven?”

Ryan was not sure but would like to be.

After explaining to him the gospel, Carolyn told him not to close his eyes but to invite Jesus into his heart.

Ryan was saved and so happy. Here is a young man 20 years old who was curious and was not afraid to make a phone call.

Signs on our vehicles do bring results.
