Love One Another

June 2, 2016

1 John 3:23 And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.

Are We His Disciple?

February 15, 2016

Little is known of some of the original disciples, except of course Judas who betrayed Jesus. The study of each of them show us what God can do with ordinary men. They were from all walks of life, fishermen and tax collectors. Some were respected and others hated.

Jesus is no respecter of people. He loved them regardless of what they did for a living, what their position in life. He gave everyone an opportunity to to follow Him just as He gives us that opportunity today. He knew Judas would betray Him, Peter would deny Him and that all would run at His crucifixion. Still He used 11 of these men to preach the gospel and become the leaders of the Christian Faith.

We too can be used of God to further the Gospel. It is our commitment to God and determination to follow Him that will make us successful. The plan of salvation is simple and it is easy to witness but it is not easy to follow Christ with no reservations. Are we going to follow when the path is easy and run when things get tough? We serve a risen Savior and still have freedom to tell others. Let us use our time to bring others to Jesus.

Twelve men changed the world with the gospel. If each of us would win those around us, we could change the world today.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

John, the Beloved

February 13, 2016

John was called to be one of the 12 disciples the same time as his brother, James. He was a fisherman also. He was called “the disciple who Jesus loved” in John 21:20-24.

He was the only one of the 12 who was not martyred.

Peter, James and John  had a special relationship with the Lord because  many times the Bible talks about those three to the exclusion of the other disciples. They were with Christ on the mount of transfiguration. They (along with Andrew) were with Him for the healing of Jairus’ daughter, and were also the inner circle of prayer warriors in the Garden of Gethsemane.

John wrote 5 books of the New Testament, John, First, Second and Third John and also penned the book of the Revelation. All written by the power of the Holy Spirit as is true of all the scriptures. He never named himself in the books that he wrote but referee to himself as the disciple.

John was exiled to the isle of Patmos and wrote some of the Books from there. He lived a long life and it is unknown where or when he died although there is much speculation about his death.

The study of the lives of the disciples gives us many examples of how we should live as Chistians. The Bible tells of their weaknesses as well as their strengths and shows they were men just as we are, with a love and service for the Lord Jesus Christ. It should inspire us to do all we can for the Lord while we have the time and energy.

John 21:22 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true.

Presidential Race

January 30, 2016

January is almost over in a presidential election year. TV, radio, newspapers and magazines seem to have one theme, the election. As an American I want to be informed but get weary of hearing the same thing over and over again.

Each candidate say they have the answer for our country, but the Bible has only one solution to the problems in any nation.

Christians can make a difference in the nation that you reside. The Bible says we must humble ourselves, seek God’s face and He will heal our land. It is our responsibility to be informed, vote, but the most important thing that we can do is put God first in our lives, Love and honor Him and trust Him for the results.

2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

Christian Marathon

January 16, 2016

Christian life is like running a marathon. First a person must decide to run in the race.

The day we accept Jesus Christ as payment for our sin is the decision to begin the Christian race.

The marathon runner must train. Our training as a Christian begins by Bible reading, prayer, church, learning to witness and obeying God.

Proper food is very important to the marathon runner. The right amount of vitamins and carbs are important to be able to have strength to finish  the race. The Christian must have proper food also. We get our strength from the Word of God the Bible and direction from the Holy Spirit.

Running in a marathon is not easy, there are health risks involved but the runner gladly accepts the risks to finish the course. The  Christian race is not easy either but we must decide to finish our course.

How are you doing in your Christian race? The marathon runner does not give up or quit and as a Christian we must not quit serving the Lord no matter how long or hard life may become. Our prize is worth much more than the marathon winners. Our prize is our Savior telling us, Well done thy good and faithful servant. Matthew 22:21

Hebrews 12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

Joyful Season?

December 4, 2015

This should be a joyful season for Christians because we celebrate the birth of our dear Lord Jesus. But life does go on and there is tragedy, sickness and heartache for some.

The world is in a mess as the enemy is attacking freedom and bringing chaos and disrupting peace all over the world.

Personal problems divorce, disobedience and arguments in homes. Illness and death take no holiday. Gloomy observations and it could get us down but Jesus is the answer.

The good news is that He is with every Christian 24/7. Only He can give the peace  that passes all understanding. If you know someone personally who is going through a trial, first pray for them, then call, email, send a card or better yet visit and take something to them that will bring a little cheer into their life.

Let us show the love of Jesus all year but especially this Christmas season. If the person is not saved then double your effort to be kind to them. It may be that your love will bring them to the Savior.

John 20:21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

JESUS, Every Knee Shall Bow

October 10, 2015

Yesterday, Octorber 9, in a major retail store a large display of Christmas trees, decorations and gifts were displayed. The commercialism for a special Holiday commemorating Jesus birth has been turned into a money making event and the worst part of it all is the name JESUS can not even be spoken in public.

His name, the Bible and any form of Christianity has been ridiculed and denounced by our government because of the “rights” of other religions (or lack of any religion). What happened to our Nation that was founded on the principles in the Bible? Freedom OF religion, not freedom From religion.

The Bible tells us that every knee shall one day bow to Jesus, the One who shed His blood that we may have eternal life. Let us who are Christians honor Him by telling others about Him and change the lives of people one person at a time.

Philippians 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

April 18, 2013

Everyday at SOS office you will find very busy people. Sometimes it can get overwhelming. This verse can help get us through busy days.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

What are you doing?

April 10, 2013

Could a mariner sit idle if he heard the drowning cry?
Could a doctor sit in comfort and just let his patients die?
Could a fireman sit idle, let men burn and give no hand?
Can you sit at ease today with the world around you damned?
