The Wise Men

December 23, 2017

The account of the wise men who came to worship Jesus is found in Matthew 2:1-12. Tradition says they were three kings who came from the east but the country they came from is not mentioned. They were thought to be 3 because of the number of gifts and kings because of the value of the gold, frankincense and myrrh.

They followed a star which appeared in the heavens until they came to Jerusalem and inquired of Herod where the King was born. Herod wanted to know more about this baby and asked the wise men to bring news of His whereabouts when they found Him. They continued to follow the star, presented their gifts and worshiped Jesus.

Jesus was not in the manger at the time the wise men found him, as is often pictured in Christmas cards and manger scenes, but was now a young child as the Bible states. Probably about 2 years old or a little younger and was in a house with Mary his mother. Then being warned in a dream the wise men went a different way back to their country and did not report to Herod.

There is a saying,”Wise men still seek Him”. Are you seeking Jesus? What He wants is our desire to follow Him as the wise men followed the star and to worship Him and give the gift of ourselves to Him. Are you wise?

Matthew 2:1-2 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him

Keep Christ in Christmas

December 9, 2017

“Happy Holidays” is what you hear when shopping this year. Store cashiers and employees are trained not to say “Merry Christmas.” We must not offend anyone. What a shame. Just one more way the enemy has used to take Christ out of Christmas.

As Christians our response should be “Merry Christmas”. There would be no Holy day without Jesus. Let us honor our Lord every chance we get. Keep Christ in Christmas by your words but more importantly keep Him first in your heart. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Matthew 1:18

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

Santa

December 6, 2017

What do you do with Santa? You can’t ignore him because he is pictured everywhere. Your children will see and hear about him. Other children will be excited and talk about him.

Do you really want your children to find out you did not tell them the truth?

In our home, having a large family, we did talk about Santa this way;

Santa is pretend. A fairy tale like Cinderella or Snow White. Fun to think about but they are not real.

They were allowed to sit on Santa’s lap and have their picture taken but they knew that he was just a man pretending to be Santa.

The gifts they receive come from Daddy and Mommy because God gives blessings of being able to work.

We had fun with our children and played make believe with them about Santa but always told them the real meaning of Christmas is because it is Jesus birthday.

The manger scene was always in a prominent place in our home. (Still is)

We celebrated His birthday with a cake. Also, taught the true joy is in giving not receiving.

Did this hurt our children? No. They really enjoyed Christmas but never had the pain of finding out that Santa is not real and that their parents had not told the truth.

We always told them not to tell their friends because their Mom or Dad must tell them when it is time for them to know.

Have fun with your children this Christmas. Make some memories that are uniquely yours.

John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

(You May think this looks familiar and it will be. Christmas blogs are repeated from previous years and still worth repeating.)

What Do You Hear?

December 3, 2017

When you go to church what do you hear? Sermons on sin or sermons that make you feel good. We need to hear the truth coming from preachers today. If you have a Pastor that preaches about sin and redemption, encourage him. If you do not hear anything but social gospel, maybe you should find another church.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

November 13, 2017

This is a question that many people ask when tragedy comes, either personal or public. God is a loving God. For the Christian, God allows sorry and heartbreak into our lives to draw us closer to Him. For the unsaved., He is giving them an opportunity to seek Him for salvation and comfort. Do we understand? No! However, with the passage of time we see blessing. Hearing the testimonies of people who have overcome great tragedies in their lives helps us to get through the hard times. If you are facing trials it is the time to draw close to God. He will be with you in every circumstance.

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Christian Life

October 11, 2017

How do you keep going for the Lord after many years? This question was asked Carolyn Curtis (co-founder of SOS Events Ministry) at a Missions Conference recently. Her answer, “Guidance of the Holy Spirit, daily Bible reading and prayer and Godly habits,” we cannot be consistent in the Christian life without all three.

Romans 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Titus 2:12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

Heaven, Our Permanent Home

October 10, 2017

Walking into my home after a week away was so wonderful. “Home is were the heart is” is an old saying but true. However, as a Christian we should be looking for our permanent home, Heaven. There we will see our wonderful Savior, Jesus. We will be with our loved ones who have gone on before. Also, we will meet the people that we have had the privilege of leading to the Lord. Or will we go in empty handed with no one because we failed to witness to our family, friends or neighbors? Will the Lord say to us, “Well done thou good and faithful servant”? Let us get busy and tell as many people as possible about this beautiful place that we will be going to when the Lord calls us home.

Matthew 25:21 His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.
