Storms can be frightening. Wind, rain, lightning come down trees and cause a lot of damage. And then after the storm is over the sun comes out and everything looks peaceful.
We have storms in our lives that we think will take us down. But if we know Jesus as our Savior, He will go with us through the storm and calm our hearts and bring us peace.
Ephesians 2: 12b & 13 …..having no hope, and without God in the world: But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
The Bible tells us that before we accepted Jesus as our Savior we were without hope, lost and on our way to spending eternity without God and Heaven.
But, after salvation, we are close to God through the blood of Jesus.
Sometimes we feel overwhelmed with the problems. Maybe it is the illness of a loved one, trying to get everything done in a day, discontent with our job or the many other things that cause us to be upset.
God tells us in His Word, do not be upset about anything, but pray, ask Him to remedy the situation, thank Him and He will give us peace.
This is what trusting is all about. Cast all our cares on Jesus and He will help us get through any situation.
This great hymn was written in a time of tragedy. The Spafford family had lost their small son in the same year 1871 as the Chicago fire. He also suffered financial problems due to the fire.
Hoping a voyage would ease the pain of loosing the son, Horatio sent his family on an ocean liner to Europe, planning to join them later.
Their 4 daughters died in the shipwreck (pictured above). His wife survived the wreck.
On his way to meet his grieving wife, passing the spot where his daughters died, Horatio G. Spafford wrote these words.
When peace like a river attendeth my way, When sorrows like sea billows roll, Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say, It is well, it is well with my soul. Chorus: It is well with my soul, It is well, it is well with my soul
And the peace of God which surpasses all understanding, shall keep your hearts, your minds through Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7.
Yesterday was a sad day for Americans. When the US Capital building is invaded by protesters, every citizen in our country should be sad.
There is one thing every Christian should do today. Pray and ask God for the healing of America.
Pray for President Trump and President-elect Biden. Both of these men need our prayers. They need wisdom and guidance. Pray that they seek answers from God.
2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
