New Years Eve

December 31, 2015

Many people will be celebrating New Years Eve tonight. Some will party, get drunk, and some will even die thinking they are having a good time.

Christians celebrate in different ways. One family has a bonfire every year, burns their Christmas tree and invites friends for food and fellowship.

I think celebrating at the church is not done much anymore, but some fondest memories are when people used to go to church, sing, eat, and pray at midnight for a safe, happy and prosperous new year.

However you choose to spend this evening, a good idea would be to stop and pray. Start your new year in the best way possible with joy. Jesus first, Others second and You last. That will bring you a truly happy New Year.

John 13:34  A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Simeon

December 26, 2015

The Christmas story did not end with the birth of Jesus. That was just the beginning. The Bible records little about baby Jesus. We know He was taken to the temple to be dedicated to the Lord when Mary’s time of purification was over as the law of Moses commanded. A sacrifice of a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons.

While at the temple MARY and Joseph met two people. Today we will talk about Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,

 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. Luke 2:29-32

The Bible says tha Joseph and Mary marveled at what Simeon had said.

Sunday Morning Christian?

December 13, 2015

Are you a Sunday Morning Christian? Or worse yet a twice a year Christian, (Christmas and Easter) you only go to church on those times or maybe to a wedding or funeral.

Today may be the day you will go. God doesn’t want your outward show. He wants all of you, everyday 24 hours a day.

If you are truly born again then worship Him with your life and action 24/7. If you are not saved, go to church today and if the Pastor gives the gospel and an opportunity to invite Jesus into your heart and forgive your sins then do that today. Maybe you are not planning go to church today, you can be saved as you read this. Admit to God you are a sinner, Believe that Jesus died on the cross as payment for your sins, and Call on Him to save you.

Pray this simple prayer but mean it with your heart: Lord Jesus, I admit I am a sinner. I believe you died on the cross for forgiveness of my sins. I ask that you forgive my sins, come into my heart and make my life new. I receive you as my Savior. Thank you Jesus. Amen

This can be the happiest Christmas you have ever had. Give Jesus the best gift you have, YOURSELF.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Gabriel, Messenger from God

December 11, 2015

Luke 1:19 And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

Luke 1:26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

Only two angels are mentioned by name in the New Testament. Gabriel and Michael. Gabriel was an archangel who was a messenger sent by God to deliver news to Zacariah and then later to Mary.

Gabriel is also mentioned in the book of Daniel in the Old Testament. Angels had an important role in the birth of the Lord Jesus. Their presence brought fear into the hearts of the people they appeared to according to scripture.

We tend to forget that people like Zacariah, Mary and Joseph were just ordinary people that God used in extraordinary circumstances. If Gabriel appeared to us today we too would be afraid.

As Christians we can look forward to the time when we will see angels in Heaven. What a wonderful future we have and there will be no fear, only wonder and beauty as we behold Heaven and meet Jesus face to face.

December 7, 2015

Are you born again? If you want to know how to be born again go to SOS Events home page and scroll down to the “3 Things God Can Not Do” click on each life preserver for what the Bible says, then scroll down to the next 3  Life preservers for the verses that will tell you how to be born again.

John 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Joyful Season?

December 4, 2015

This should be a joyful season for Christians because we celebrate the birth of our dear Lord Jesus. But life does go on and there is tragedy, sickness and heartache for some.

The world is in a mess as the enemy is attacking freedom and bringing chaos and disrupting peace all over the world.

Personal problems divorce, disobedience and arguments in homes. Illness and death take no holiday. Gloomy observations and it could get us down but Jesus is the answer.

The good news is that He is with every Christian 24/7. Only He can give the peace  that passes all understanding. If you know someone personally who is going through a trial, first pray for them, then call, email, send a card or better yet visit and take something to them that will bring a little cheer into their life.

Let us show the love of Jesus all year but especially this Christmas season. If the person is not saved then double your effort to be kind to them. It may be that your love will bring them to the Savior.

John 20:21  Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

Salvation

November 23, 2015

Everyone who is saved has a different testimony. Some were saved as a small child through the influence  of parents, grandparents or a godly Sunday  School teacher or bus worker. They really do not know what it is like to be in the world as sinners and have the most time to serve the Lord.

Others lived a life of sin and came to know Jesus after they came to the end of their rope and felt hopeless and had no place to turn. Maybe a Christian handed them a Bible tract and witnessed to them, or they went into a mission for food and a warm bed, and still others met an SOS Events worker at an event. These people are so thankful to be out of a life of sin and many want to tell others of their wonderful Savior.

There is a group of people who lived a good life, went to church, tithed, were moral, and did not commit any terrible sin. This group is the hardest to reach for Christ because they think they are good enough to to get to Heaven, but they realized they needed to be saved.

Every category of Christian falls into one of these groups, all are sinners in need of a Savior. If you are saved you can be thankful for your salvation. This is the greatest blessing in your life no matter if you are rich or poor, male or female, young or old. Today join with us in thanking God for your salvation.

Ephesians 12-14 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

Today’s Teens

November 19, 2015

When some teenagers are in the news for bad behavior there are many who love the Lord and faithfully serve Him. These three young girls, Julianna, Beka and Hailey come after school a few days a week to work in the SOS office and they are a great blessing to the ministry.

Julianna is the most recent office worker. She is a college student attending school close to the home office. She is learning how to record the decisions and get the information into the computer so the new converts will get Bible studies. She will also be doing many other tasks like working on the various printing machines to get supplies ready for SOS displays and events.

Beka has been working in the office since she was in 8th grade and has been a great assistant to Diana, our Office Manager. She is a senior in high school and will be off to college next year so she is now training the other girls to do what she usually does. Beka is a soul winner also. She works at some events like the Strawberry Festival every year. She has also helped with a few trainings.

Hailey attends school with Beka. She is also a new worker with SOS Events. Her job is to work on whatever is needed to supply materials for the ministry. Bagging tracts, cutting decision slips, laminating materials for soul winning and other things that help to keep things running smoothly in a busy growing ministry.

Keep these girls in your prayers. They live at a time in their lives where they are making decisions that will determine their future and trials and temptations are ever present in this world. The staff at SOS Events are blessed to have them and privileged to teach them skills and give them experience that will be useful to them in the future.

1 Timothy 4:12  Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

I Love to Tell the Story

November 16, 2015

     A young girl, Katherine Hankey, who devoted her life to Sunday school work fell seriously ill at age 30.
       During her convalescence, in the year 1866, she wrote a long poem which contains the words of this hymn:

I Love to Tell the Story

(1) I love to tell the story Of unseen things above,

Of Jesus and His glory, Of Jesus and His love;

I love to tell the story- Because I know ’tis true,

It satisfies my longings As nothing else can do.

CHORUS:

I love to tell the story!

Twill be my theme in glory-

To tell the old, old story

Of Jesus and His love.

(2) I love to tell the story- More wonderful it seems

Than all the golden fancies Of all our golden dreams;

I love to tell the story- It did so much for me,

And that is just the reason- I tell it now to Thee.

(3) I love to tell the story- ‘Tis pleasant to repeat

What seems, each time I tell it, More wonderfully sweet;

I love to tell the story- For some have never heard

The message of salavtion From God’s own holy word.

(4) I love to tell the story- For those who know it best

Seem hungering and thirsting To hear it like the rest;

And when in scenes of glory I sing the new, new song,
‘Twill be the old, old story That I have loved so long.”

Every Christian should love to tell about Jesus. That is the reason SOS Events ministry was founded. To tell others how to be saved and to teach Christians how to tell in a simple non confrontational way.

Acts 11:14  Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved.

Volunteers for Christ

November 12, 2015

God uses people in our lives to bring blessings. This week a godly couple came over to help with things that needed doing on the property. John and Sondra worked for several hours cleaning out a flower garden that had been overgrown and looked unkempt. This couple is not young but in their early 80’s. They also work at events witnessing for the Lord.

We are also thankful to David who volunteers every week to see that SOS property is maintained.

2 Thessalonians 1:3  We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;
