Are you waiting for something? Children wait for their birthday or Christmas and it seems like forever for that day to come. Adults are not much different. A young person may be waiting for their wedding day. Will it ever get here? A promotion at work, or a new house may be what a mature person may be waiting for. An older person might be waiting for a phone call from a child or grandchild, or something more serious like the results from a medical procedure. All these things can be stressful at any age, but the Bible tells us to wait on the Lord. He will strengthen our hearts. What a precious promise. Whatever you are wanting for, put your trust in the Lord. His timing is always perfect.
Some of our old hymns and songs of the faith are being lost in this generation. Let us try to keep the messages alive with the old music along with the new. A great message in one of them is “Trust and Obey” was written by John H. Sammis in 1887. Read the words and you will not want this message to be lost:
1 When we walk with the Lord
in the light of his word,
what a glory he sheds on our way!
While we do his good will,
he abides with us still,
and with all who will trust and obey.
Refrain:
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
2 Not a burden we bear,
not a sorrow we share,
but our toil he doth richly repay;
not a grief or a loss,
not a frown or a cross,
but is blest if we trust and obey. [Refrain]
3 But we never can prove
the delights of his love
until all on the altar we lay;
for the favor he shows,
for the joy he bestows,
are for them who will trust and obey. [Refrain]
4 Then in fellowship sweet
we will sit at his feet,
or we’ll walk by his side in the way;
what he says we will do,
where he sends we will go;
never fear, only trust and obey. [Refrain]
Job 36:11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
We like to be in control of everything in our lives. Fear comes when we are in a situation that we can do nothing about. That is where some of us are right now.
On a prayer list from a group of Christians were many requests. Illness of a family member, unrest in our Country, loss of jobs and many other concerns.
That is where faith is important. God is in control. He knows what we are going through. Sickness, death, uncertainty. Now is the time to turn to Him for peace, comfort and most of all trust.
Proverbs 3:5&6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Who can you fully trust in? Family and friends may fail you but, Jesus never fails. The Bible tells us to trust in Jesus with all our heart.
What we think about is also very important. Philippians 4:9 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things
Two last lessons from a children’s song.
Oh be careful little heart whom you trust Oh be careful little heart whom you trust For the father up above is looking down in love So be careful little heart whom you trust
Oh be careful little mind what you think Oh be careful little mind what you think For the father up above is looking down in love So be careful little mind what you think
God’s Word tells us that ALL things work together for good. Add the word our good.
You may not realize that the circumstances that you are facing right now can be good.
Maybe it is the death of a loved one. My son died at age 20. How can that be good? God allowed tragedy so many family member found a hereditary disease that could be corrected by surgery.
Loss of employment. God provides a much better position if you wait on Him.
Lack of finances. God will supply all your needs if we trust in Him.
Fear. God tells us fear not- He is with you. 24/7.
Only God knows how your specific problem will work for your good, but trust Him and in time you will look back and see that He had it all in control.
The pain of the situation is still there, but we have a Savior who gives us comfort while we wait for His answer.
