Bible Studies for You

January 25, 2017

The Christian Life Study Outlines and Notes are the amplification of a ministry of over 35 years, both in the pastorate and in the field of teaching and evangelism. These lessons by Porter Barrington on the Great Doctrines of the Bible are simple without being ordinary, short without being shallow, brief without being dwarfed, positive without being over-formal and comprehensive without being complicated.
They were produced to fill a need in the life of the average Christian, to provide an incentive to know more of God’s Holy Word. If diligently studied, they will help to establish you in the faith and give you spiritual confidence.
It is suggested that you study the Master Outlines in the order given; one each day for fifteen days, and at the end of fifteen days, you will know more about the New Testament than you ever thought possible. This study is equal to an advanced course in Systematic Theology. If you review these lessons often, you will continue to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ..

They are reproduced for you to the right of the blog. Start you study today. You will be blessed.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Every Situation

January 22, 2017

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

In the happy moments, praise God.    In the difficult moments, seek God.   In the quiet moments, worship God.   In the painful moments, trust God.   In every moment, thank God.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Pray for Unity

January 21, 2017

As a Christian it is our responsibility to pray for our leaders. Some people are happy that Donald Trump is our president and some people are not happy, but the Bible says to pray for those who have authority over us. We need to pray that God will give President Trump and Vice President Pence wisdom to lead America in the right direction. Only God can bring peace and prosperity to our country. Let us join together in prayer for all our government leaders and that our country will reunite in peace.

1 Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

You Must Be Born Again

January 17, 2017

“I believe that a great number of people are going to die and go to hell because they’re counting on their religiosity in the church instead of their relationship with Jesus to get them to heaven. They give lip service to repentance and faith, but they’ve never been born again.” Adrian Rogers

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Friday the 13th

January 13, 2017

It is Friday the 13th. Are you superstitious?  There are a number of popular myths and superstitions surrounding the day, most famously:

If you cut your hair on Friday the 13th, someone in your family will die.

If a funeral procession passes you on Friday the 13th, you will be the next to die.

Do not start a trip on Friday or you will encounter misfortune.

If you break a mirror on Friday the 13th, you will have seven years of bad luck.

A child born on Friday the 13th will be unlucky for life.

Ships that set sail on a Friday will have bad luck.

If you walk under a ladder or if a black cat crosses you on Friday the 13th, you will have bad luck.

As a Christian we should not believe in luck, good or bad. We should trust the Lord for everyday no matter what the calendar says. Superstition causes our minds to be confused and results in lack of trust in God.

Psalms 71:1 In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.

Look to Jesus

January 4, 2017

The SOS Events office is full of activity as the new year begins. Time for tax deductible receipts to go out, revision of the manual, scheduling for trainings and events for 2017 and plans for new areas and events.

When the staff is busy there is the enemy who is busy also trying to upset whatever we do for the Lord. The devil has already been defeated by our Lord and Savior Jesus. So we will put our trust in Him and just keep keeping on. If you are discouraged when things seem to be going wrong, look to Jesus in faith to bring you through.

Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Celebrate New Years Eve

December 31, 2016

Trying to find an image for New Years Eve was an eye opener. Most all of the pictures were of drinking and partying. These kind of images show what our society has become.

As Christians our prayer for you is that you will spend tonight in a way that would please the Lord. Not with alcohol,  but with clean fun and fellowship. You will be safer and not wake up with a headache in the morning.

In time past we always had a party at church. Starting in the early evening, there would be singing, games, food maybe a Christian movie and then at midnight we would begin the New Year with prayer. Sometimes we would then gather around the piano and sing for several more hours, enjoying the fellowship and brining honor to God.

So this evening have a safe Happy New Year’s Eve and may God bring blessings to you in 2017.

Ephesians 5:18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Santa

December 16, 2016

What do you do with Santa?You can’t ignore him because he is pictured everywhere. Your children will see and hear about him. Other children will be excited and talk about him.

Do you really want your children to find out you did not tell them the truth?

In our home, having a large family, we did talk about Santa this way;

Santa is pretend. A fairy tale like Cinderella or Snow White. Fun to think about but they are not real.

They were allowed to sit on Santa’s lap and have their picture taken but they knew that he was just a man pretending to be Santa.

The gifts they receive come from Daddy and Mommy because God gives blessings of being able to work.

We had fun with our children and played make believe with them about Santa but always told them the real meaning of Christmas is because it is Jesus birthday.

The manger scene was always in a prominent place in our home. (Still is)

We celebrated His birthday with a cake. Also, taught the true joy is in giving not receiving.

Did this hurt our children? No. They really enjoyed Christmas but never had the pain of finding out that Santa is not real and that their parents had not told the truth.

We always told them not to tell their friends because their Mom or Dad must tell them when it is time for them to know.

Have fun with your children this Christmas. Make some memories that are uniquely yours.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Hark the Herald Angels Sing

December 13, 2016

“Hark the Herald Angels Sing” was written in the 1700’s by Charles Wesley. He and his brother John were dynamic preachers in that time and were responsible for revival in both England and America. They founded the Methodist Church.Charles wrote hundreds of hymns, first published in the Methodist Hymnal. He was saved under the preaching of George Whitfield, who also had a part in the lyrics of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” as he changed some of the words to the hymn as we know it today.

The influence of these great men of the faith are still being felt today. If only we would see men today of such dedication to the preaching of the Gospel.
Unfortunately a lot of the churches have started singing “new” Christmas songs and the old familiar hymns are being tossed aside, along with the power of the Holy Spirit. Programs have replaced power in many churches today. If you hear or sing this great hymn this Christmas stop for a minute or two and pray for revival. Our churches need revival, our homes need revival and our nation needs revival.

1. Hark! the herald angels sing

Glory to the newborn King!

Peace on earth and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!
Joyful, all ye nations, rise;
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem!

(Chorus)
Hark! the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King!

2. Hail the heav’n-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Son of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Ris’n with  with healing in his wings.
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die;
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.

Luke 2:14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Church, Full or Empty

December 4, 2016

The church is decorated for Christmas, wreaths, garlands, lights, beautiful flowers. The choir is prepared, the Pastor has his message ready and the congregation comes to worship.There are two times a year when the churches are full, Christmas and Easter. Both times are to celebrate the coming of Jesus. Christmas to celebrate His birth and Easter to celebrate his coming out of the grave and victory over death.

Are you a two times a year church goer? If that is the only time you worship Jesus, you may miss His second coming when He will meet born again Christians in the air.Then the churches that preach the gospel should be empty. Think about going to church and it is almost empty. No Pastor, no choir, only a few people who missed the true message of Jesus birth. God sent His Son as a gift that we might be saved. Do not be left to go to an empty church. Accept God’s gift of salvation today, then go to church and celebrate Jesus’ birth and you can truly worship from your heart.

Galatians 4:4-7 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.
