Mistletoe symbolizes the love we are able to offer to others only because of Christ who “first loves us.”
This year, tell family and friends about the true meaning of mistletoe.
Be sure to let them know that the corresponding kiss is a symbol of peace, romance and the love of a Heavenly Father who sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross, was buried and rose again on the third day, as the payment for all our sins.
God’s love for us is the true meaning of Christmas.
1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us
If you have a Sweetheart to share Valentines Day with, you are blessed, but if you do not have a Spouse or special someone you are still blessed. You have the One who loves you more than anyone possibly could. His name is Jesus. Have a blessed Valentines Day.
1 John 4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
What do you think of when you hear the word love? You may think of your spouse, your children.
We use the word love about material things. “ I love my house”
What is true love? The best example is found in the familiar verse, John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
God’s love is the greatest love we can experience. He sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin.
Because of His great love we can have eternal life.
Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was very old. She was a widow, for her husband had died when they had been married only seven years.
Probably, after her husbands death, Anna would have been encouraged to get married again and have children.
Anna, chose to stay single. She chose to serve the Lord. She chose to fast and pray, worshiping the Lord day and night. She told people the news of the Savior that was coming, no matter how long it might be before he came.
She knew her purpose and she didn’t let anyone’s opinions or comments keep her from it. Then Anna saw Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus in the temple and knew her purpose had been fulfilled.
Luke 2:36-38 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption.
Do you find it hard to love some people? Maybe it is a fellow worker, a disagreeable neighbor, someone in your family, a person of another race or religion.
It is a natural reaction to not love someone who has hurt you, but that is the problem. It is a “natural” reaction. The Bible tells us in Ephesians as Christians to put off the old man which is corrupt and put on the new man, which is holy.
How then do we overcome the lack of love in our lives? Start to pray for that person if it is an individual. Ask God to change your heart if it is a group of people.
We cannot be an obedient Christian or have God’s blessings if we have hate in our heart.
Today we set aside a day to celebrate our love for someone.
Love and romance. In reality everyday should be a day we show love. Not only for that special person, but to all our family, friends and neighbors.
God’s Word is very clear when it comes to love.
He loves each of us with a love so great, He sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to die on a cross, be buried and rise from death, so our sin can be forgiven and we can have everlasting life.
Then He tells us to love one another.
True unconditional love.
So, Happy Valentine’s Day. Today and every day show love to one another.
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day. A day set aside to show love to a sweetheart, spouse, or friend!
God’s Word tells us to love, not only on one day a year but every day.
If you have that special someone, then show them that love tomorrow. Candy, flowers or a card. Be thankful for them.
Some do not have the pleasure of having that loved one. It can be a hard day for them. If you know a widow or a single person who may be sad, do something special for them.
A phone call, card or message will be especially welcome.
Sharing the love of God could be the one thing that could bring lasting joy into the heart of that person.
