Tornado Warning

March 8, 2014

Events like fairs, flea markets and other outside activities depend on the weather to bring in the crowds.
On Thursday this week, the weather report was not good. Tornado watches and warnings were broadcast most of the day. Rain came down and the wind blew.
SOS staff had prayed for good weather for Strawberry Festival and now we have Tornado warnings. Nobody will come to Strawberry Festival in this weather was my thought.
Our booth is inside a stone building, only one of 2 permanent buildings that are on Strawberry Festival property.
Where would people go to get out of this horrible weather? Inside the safest building they could find. Ten precious souls were saved on Thursday in just 4 hours.
My faith was small but God turned that bad situation into a BIG blessing.

Matthew 8:26
And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.

Good Example

March 2, 2014

Tom Curtis, founder of SOS Events has a heart for the lost. He always uses every situation to hand out a Bible tract or be a witness for The Lord.
Yesterday, we stopped for breakfast at a very crowded restaurant. There was at least a 20 minute wait to get a table.
Tom was coming out of the restroom when he stumbled and almost fell. His color was terrible and one look at him and even the people around could tell something was wrong.
A man came up behind him and would not leave his side until the manager brought a chair for Tom to sit it.
Another employee brought a glass of orange juice when I explained he must be having a low sugar attack.
Feeling really shaky and sick Tom still in the midst of it all, got tracts out of his pocket and made sure the ones that helped got a tract.
The manager of that Cracker Barrel then got us a table immediately so Tom could eat and after he got some food he felt much better.
What an example of a man that loves The Lord so much and has a burden for the lost.

John 13:15
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

Testimony Using the “New” Picture Frame Board

January 23, 2014

My husband and I were packed and ready for our vacation. He felt he should call his brother before we left. After he hung up the phone he told me that something was not right. He didn’t sound well. We decided to drive to his house and visit him.

He lived alone for years and we had not seen him in over a week. When we arrived we could not find him immediately. He was in the upstairs bedroom and looked close to death. He had not eaten or had any water in four days. The ambulance was called and the doctor at the hospital told us that his kidneys had shut down. They believe his dementia was the cause of his not consuming food or water.

Before the ambulance arrived I spoke with my brother in law about eternity. I explained the three things that God cannot do. I asked him if he wanted to be 100% certain he was going to heaven. He said he did not.

A week in the hospital saw his rapid recovery. Even the doctors were amazed considering his age of 81. Throughout his hospital stay, onto rehab and finally admission to assisted living, I asked him if he would like to receive Christ using the “3 things” tract. The answer continued to be “no”.

Well,I did my part right? We are supposed to tell. I did. Multiple times. I could not give up though. I love my brother in law. I decided to use the picture frame size “3 things” board supplied by SOS Ministries. I told him my testimony again and asked if he would like to see something really interesting. He agreed. After going through the “3 things” board and asking how sure he was he was going to heaven, he said no one can be sure. I explained that he could be and asked if he wanted to be sure. This time the answer was YES!

On Thursday, January 16 at 6:15 PM, the angels in heaven rejoiced as my brother in law asked Jesus forgiveness and had his name written in the book of life. I believe the use of the “3 things” picture frame board as a visual was the key to his understanding of the simple gospel message. I was able to carry it in my purse into the facility and use it easily. Without that tool, prayer, and my heart burdened for him, I think his destination would not be where it is today.

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.

Ordered steps

January 21, 2014

Tom and I had many things to do on Sunday so we decided to go to the early service at church.
After church we had about one hour before our appointment so we had time to go to the gas station to fill up and stop for a cup of coffee.
When we got to the gas station it looked busy so we went for coffee first.
Returning to the gas station, every pump was in use so we had to wait.
Finally there was a pump free so as Tom pulled up, I got out to pump gas. (Tom has a harder time getting in and out of the car because of a bad knee)
We have a sign on the back of our window that says “DO YOU KNOW THE 3 THINGS GOD CANNOT DO?”
A man was at the next gas pump and asked, “Do you have a church?”
I replied, “No, but we do have a ministry that tells people how they can go to Heaven.”
After he asked a few more questions, I told him the “3 things.”
1. GOD CAN NOT LIE. 2. GOD CANNOT CHANGE 3. GOD CAN NOT LET ANYONE INTO HEAVEN UNLESS THEY ARE BORN AGAIN.
“Are you 50, 75 or 100% sure if you died today you would go to Heaven?”
He was not sure but wanted to be so as I explained how he needed to A. Admit he was a sinner, B. Jesus died on the cross for his sins and C. He needed to call on The Lord to save him.
I wanted Tom to pray with Emile, so I motioned for him to get out of the car as I asked, ” Would you be willing to call on The Lord with me right now?”
His answer was affirmative, so the 3 of us held hands and Tom led him in a prayer for salvation.
Emile was wonderfully saved.
He is a businessman who travels all over the world and his home country is the Ukraine. God brought him to that gas station at that time so he could hear the Gospel and be saved.
Psalms 37:23
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord:
and he delighteth in his way.

Witnessing In Everyday Situations

January 16, 2014

Witnessing is a natural part of everyday living for Tom no matter where he goes. Yesterday, SOS needed a cable from Radio Shack.
There was a sweet young woman helping him find what he needed and when the purchase was completed, he asked her the question he often asks, “Are you 50, 75, or 100% sure if you died today you would go to Heaven?
“I think so, I’m a good person,” was her answer.
“You really aren’t sure are you? Would you like to be sure? ” Tom asked.
When she said she would, Tom then led her to The Lord.
There is nothing that lifts our spirit more than to be used to witness and then see a person respond to the Gospel.
Two blessings, a young woman is on her way to Heaven, and Tom’s heart was overflowing with joy.
Ephesians 1:13
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

The Great Phycisian

January 14, 2014

Everyone has to go to the doctor for some reason. Sometimes it is something non-threatening like a cold or sore throat. Sometimes it is serious like heart attack or cancer. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all physicians were Christians? We are very fortunate to have one that is a Christian. He prays for us and we likewise pray for him.
How can you tell if you doctor is a Christian? Ask him or her or tell them you are praying for them. Always carry tracts to hand out when going to your doctor. (SOS has a simple tract if you would like a sample)
Also you can search the web to see if there is a Christian physician in your area.
Always remember that it is the Great Physician, Jesus, who is the true healer. Go to Him first and then trust His servant doctor for the best care.
Matthew 8:7
And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him.

A Happy Anniversary

January 5, 2014

We, Tom and Carolyn Curtis celebrate our anniversary today, January 5. When God brought us together He not only gave us a wonderful marriage but directed us to start SOS Events in 2001.
Since that time over 35,000 people have made decisions for Christ through SOS Events.
We are so thankful for God’s plan for us and for this ministry that has been so effective in winning souls to Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 3:11
Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.

Do You Take Advantage of Opportunity?

November 19, 2013

While shopping a lady needed a shopping cart but did not have a quarter. (Aldis requires a quarter to use their carts)
When Carolyn was returning her cart to get back her coin, she noticed the lady.
“Do you need a cart and cannot find a quarter?”, she asked the woman.
“Yes” the lady answered.
“Take mine,” Carolyn said, “but in exchange will you read this tract?”
The lady took the cart and the tract and happily went into the store.
This was an unusual opportunity to give a gospel tract. SOS staff are always looking for opportunities to witness. Sometimes it is actually a conversation that leads to conversion and other times it is giving a tract and praying that the Word will dwell in the hearts of the recipients.
Are you looking for opportunities to witness?

Wrong Number?

October 17, 2013

Late one night the telephone rang. Tom missed the call so dialed the number back.
A woman answered and said, “Sorry wrong number.”
Tom quickly asked her if she knew the 3 Things God Can Not Do.
She did not, so Tom explained them to her and proceeded to go through the short presentation of the gospel.
She prayed to receive Jesus into her heart, and is now going to start Bible studies.
Wrong number? There are no wrong numbers with God.

Memorial for Eugene “Quacky” Curtis

July 21, 2013

Today a memorial service was held for Eugene Curtis, from Toledo, OH. He was better known as Quacky the clown.
He was also the oldest brother of SOS founder, Tom Curtis. It was a beautiful service, commemorating a life of bringing happiness to thousands of people all over the USA and Canada for over 50 years.
The best part of the memories are his true salvation. It is a joy to go to a service, knowing that we will see him again.
Heaven is real. Jesus provided a way to have eternal life though His death on the cross, His burial and His resurrection. Our part is to admit we have sinned. Believe in our heart that Jesus paid the price for our sin and call on Him to save us.
Then on our final day on earth our loved ones will know that they, too can see us again in Heaven. What a blessing.
