Happy Holidays or Merry Christmas

December 2, 2016

“Happy Holidays” is what you hear when shopping this year. Store cashiers and employees are trained not to say “Merry Christmas.” We must not offend anyone. What a shame. Just one more way the enemy has used to take Christ out of Christmas.
As Christians our response should be “Merry Christmas”. There would be no Holy day without Jesus. Let us honor our Lord every chance we get. Keep Christ in Christmas by your words but more importantly keep Him first in your heart. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.
1 Peter 2:17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.

(Note that many of this years Christmas blogs are repeated from prior years but still to good to not repeat)

Jesus Birth Brings Light to the World

December 1, 2016

Christmas lights are so beautiful. Darkness falls and even the most barren property, the scrawniest tree, the ugly streets become a sparkling sight to see. Some people spend a lot of money for the lights of Christmas. Others may only have a little string of lights or a few candles. The mall and shops are full of glowing lights. There are people who refuse to light their home or have a tree. However a person may feel about decorating for Chrismas they still enjoy the sight of what others have done.

Jesus is the light of the world. His light shines in the hearts of people who believe in Him and have trusted Him as their Savior. Others receive the benefits He brings into the world. He blesses the just and the unjust. This season when you enjoy the decorations and especially the lights think about Jesus and the light He brings to your life.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Christmas is Coming

November 29, 2016

Christmas is less than a month away. Everyday we will explore the wonderful truth of Jesus’ birth. The first prophecy of Jesus birth is in Genesis.
Check out the blog each day and follow with me the miraculous story of the birth of our Savior.

Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Christmas Bells

November 27, 2016

Christmas Bells are especially associated with Christmas as they proclaim the birth of Jesus and are therefore a sacred Christian symbol relating to the Nativity. Jingle Bells are commonly used on Christmas decorations, ornaments and feature in many Christmas card illustrations.

Luke 1:14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

The Christmas Tree

November 26, 2016

The left overs from Thanksgiving are eaten or put away, now is the time people start to decorate their homes for Christmas. We will look at some of the traditions of Christmas and see how we can celebrate the birth of Jesus when we put them up.

Germany is credited with starting the Christmas tree tradition as we now know it in the 16th century when devout Christians brought decorated trees into their homes. The Christmas tree is a symbol of Christ. This very ancient custom, exalts the value of life, as in winter what is evergreen becomes a sign of undying life, and it reminds Christians of the tree of life.

Many Christians do not believe that you should have a tree because it was used in pagan holidays in ancient time, but whatever your thoughts on the matter we can use Christmas decorations to point to Christ.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

Black Friday

November 25, 2016

Today is what America calls Black Friday! Christmas has become so commercialized that a lot of people will be in stores before dawn and many started on Thanksgiving day rushing for the best deals. By 5:30 AM many store were already out of some popular toys.

Our extended family, married children and family not living in our home have decided not to exchange gifts this year but to spend time rather than money on one another. This will give the best gift of all to each other and that is true love and fellowship. It also will help each of us to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

The Wise Men

December 28, 2015

The account of the wise men who came to worship Jesus is found in Matthew 2:1-12. Tradition says they were three kings who came from the east but the country they came from is not mentioned. They were thought to be 3  because of the number of gifts and kings because of the value of the gold, frankincense and myrrh.

They followed a star which appeared in the heavens until they came to Jerusalem and inquired of Herod where the King was born. Herod wanted to know more about this baby and asked the wise men to bring news of His whereabouts when they found Him. They continued to follow the star, presented their gifts and worshiped Jesus. Then being warned in a dream went a different way back to their country and did not report to Herod.

There is a saying,”Wise men still seek Him”. Are you seeking Jesus? What He wants is our desire to follow Him as the wise men followed the star and to worship Him and give the gift of ourselves to Him. Are you wise?

Matthew 2:1-2 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him

Anna the Prophetess

December 27, 2015

Anna, a prophet, was also there in the Temple. She was the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, and was very old. She was a widow, for her husband had died when they had been married only seven years.
Probably, after her husbands death, Anna would have been encouraged to get married again and have children. Anna,  chose to stay single. She chose to serve the Lord. She chose to fast and pray, worshiping the Lord day and night. She told people the news of the Savior that was coming, no matter how long it might be before he came. She knew her purpose and she didn’t let anyone’s opinions or comments keep her from it. Then Anna saw Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus in the temple and knew her purpose had been fulfilled.

Luke 2:36-38 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

Simeon

December 26, 2015

The Christmas story did not end with the birth of Jesus. That was just the beginning. The Bible records little about baby Jesus. We know He was taken to the temple to be dedicated to the Lord when Mary’s time of purification was over as the law of Moses commanded. A sacrifice of a pair of turtle doves or two young pigeons.

While at the temple MARY and Joseph met two people. Today we will talk about Simeon. He was righteous and devout and was eagerly waiting for the Messiah to come and rescue Israel. The Holy Spirit was upon him and had revealed to him that he would not die until he had seen the Lord’s Messiah. That day the Spirit led him to the Temple. So when Mary and Joseph came to present the baby Jesus to the Lord as the law required, Simeon was there. He took the child in his arms and praised God, saying,

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. Luke 2:29-32

The Bible says tha Joseph and Mary marveled at what Simeon had said.

A Savior is Born

December 25, 2015

Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
