A New Year Coming

December 29, 2013

2013 is almost over. Just a few more days to reflect on this past year. Every year has both joy and sorrow. Maybe this year there was a new birth in your family, or you had a promotion on your job or moved into a new house. Think of the joy that you had this past year.
Then there may have been sorrow, a death in the family that has left a huge hole in your heart, or maybe you lost your job or your house is foreclosed.
Contrasts in life is a normal thing for man. The good news is that there is a new year coming that is like a blank canvas. God will bring some blessings and He may allow some sorrow, but it is always exciting to look forward to the new year and know that God will direct our path if we trust Him.
Proverbs 3:6
In all thy ways acknowledge him,
and he shall direct thy paths.

The Best Gift

December 27, 2013

Did you receive a gift for Christmas that you really liked?
Do you remember a gift you got last year? Most of us do not remember past gifts unless it was something really special that has sentimental meaning.
There is one gift, that if you have received it, you will not forget and it is something that will last for eternity.
The Lord Jesus. Today reflect on the verse, John 1:12.

John 1:12
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

No Room

December 22, 2013

No room in the inn. The town was crowded because of the many people coming to pay their taxes and there was no room for this young woman who was great with child. Did you ever wonder what the innkeeper thought after the birth of Jesus? He is never mentioned in scripture but surely there must have been a lot of talk about a baby born in the stable.
No room. Today, there are people who say the same thing, no room in their hearts for Jesus.
Christmas is a few days away and let us make sure that Jesus is the main focus in our heart and in our home.
Luke 2:7
And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

The Miracle Baby, John

December 21, 2013

God’s miracle preformed in Zachariahs and Elizabeth’s baby, John. A child conceived in old age but chosen to go before The Lord to prepare his way. We see John in later scripture doing that as he preached and Jesus came to him to be baptized.
Can God preform miracles today? He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Luke 1:76
And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest:
for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

Elizabeth, a mother in old age

December 19, 2013

Elizabeth was well beyond child bearing age but God gave her a child in answer to many years of sadness and grief because she was barren. He used miracle baby to be the forerunner of Jesus.
Luke 1:37
For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Mary, Humble and Pure

December 18, 2013

Mary was humble, pure and willing to do what God asked of her. She was young woman with the same emotions and feelings that we all have and God chose her, blessed her and honored her. She still knew she needed a Savior. Her conversation with Elizabeth in Luke gives us great insight into who Mary was and what she believed. A good passage of scripture to study at this time of year.
Luke 1:47
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Mary, Fear to Faith

December 17, 2013

Mary was afraid when she first saw the angel but she listen to his message and then had faith to believe what he told her. Her fear turned to faith in what she though was impossible because she had never been with a man.
Luke 1:35
And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee:therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

Joseph a Lesson in Obedience

December 16, 2013

Joseph listened to the angel and then obeyed even though he knew that there would be consequences for taking Mary to be his wife. We sometimes forget that the Biblical people were just men and had the same feelings and temptations we have in our lives. Joseph is a good example for us to follow.
Matthew 1:20
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife:for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

Joseph, God’s Perfect Choice

December 15, 2013

Do you ever think of Joseph when reading the Christmas story? What a kind man. Even before the angel came to visit him he had compassion on Mary. God’s perfect choice for a husband for her. This verse is the KJV and they had not yet been together as husband and wife but were in the engagement period as was the custom at that time.
Matthew 1:19
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

God Loves a Cheerful Giver

December 13, 2013

Instead of giving gifts at the office or any other traditional gift giving group take up a collection and give it to a needy family.
2 Corinthians 9:7
Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity:for God loveth a cheerful giver.
