Today is my birthday, and I am thankful for every year that God has given me. Birthdays are special because they remind us of the gift of life. But as I reflect on this day, I am reminded of a birthday that is even more important than the day I was physically born.
In 1960, I experienced my “second birthday” when I trusted Jesus Christ as my Savior and was born again. That decision changed not only my life on earth but also my eternity. Physical birth gave me life in this world, but spiritual birth gave me eternal life through Jesus Christ.
When Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, He made it clear that being born again is not optional. He said:
“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3 KJV)
Over the years, God has blessed me with family, friends, opportunities to serve, and the privilege of sharing the Gospel through SOS Events. There have been joys and sorrows, victories and challenges, but through it all, the Lord has remained faithful.
As Carolyn Curtis celebrates another birthday today, my greatest reason for rejoicing is not my age or the number of years behind me. It is the wonderful truth that in 1960 I became a child of God. That was the day my eternal life began.
If you know the date of your second birthday, thank God for it today. If you have never been born again, there is no better time than now to trust Christ as your Savior.
The best birthday anyone can celebrate is the day they were born into God’s family.
