Simon Peter

The Bible gives an account of how Jesus chose His disciples. In Mark 1:16 and 17 Simon  and Andrew are chosen.

They were just common men, brothers, who earned their living catching fish. Jesus told them to follow Him and they would become fishers of men.

Simon was a impetuous man, bold, boisterous had a temper. Jesus changed his name to Peter. Peter was always putting his foot in his mouth but one thing about Peter was that when Jesus told them (Peter and Andrew) to “follow me” they simply walked away and left everything they had without a second thought.

Peter also was the disciple who denied Jesus 3 times and wept bitterly over his betrayal of his Savior. Even with all his faults and sins, Peter became one of the greatest witnesses. He was the first one to preach on the day of Pentecost after the coming of the Holy Spirit and he was the first one to proclaim Christ to a Gentile. He was one of the boldest apostles of all. He willingly suffered persecution, imprisonment, beatings, and even rejoiced at the fact that he was worthy to suffer disgrace for the Lord‘s sake.

Jesus changed the life of an ordinary man into one who became a great witness for the Lord. Jesus is still changing lives today and through the power of the Holy Spirit we too can become great witnesses for Him.

Mark 1:16-17 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
