Let Your Words Honor the Lord

Words are powerful. They can encourage or discourage, build up or tear down, bring hope or bring hurt. As followers of Christ, we have the privilege and responsibility of speaking in a way that honors Him.

Before words ever leave our lips, they begin in our hearts. That’s why David prayed not only that the words of his mouth would be acceptable to God, but also the meditation of his heart. If our hearts are filled with God’s Word, His love, and His Spirit, our speech will naturally reflect Him.

Every conversation gives us an opportunity to represent Jesus. Whether we’re speaking with family, friends, coworkers, or even strangers, our words should be seasoned with kindness, grace, truth, and compassion. Sometimes the greatest witness we have is not a sermon we preach, but the gentle and loving words we speak each day.

Before responding in a difficult situation, pause and ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts and your tongue. Let Him speak through you. When Christ controls our hearts, He also controls our words.

Today, let’s make David’s prayer our own: “Lord, help my thoughts be pleasing to You, and let every word that comes from my mouth bring glory to Your name.”
